Richard Wagner (1813-1883) was a German composer, conductor, and theorist renowned for his revolutionary operas including the Ring cycle, Tristan und Isolde, and Parsifal. He served as Kapellmeister in Dresden before fleeing Germany after participating in the 1849 May Uprising.
